Red Water Droplet Splash - © Mark Pelleymounter |
With the weather still poor outside, I am being pretty much restriced to indoor photo work so far this year. I cannot wait for the weather to warm up to get out and about and explore the world around us.
I also think I need to do a bit more than simply posting a photograph taken on teh day and perhaps give a little bit more insight into how it was taken.
Today's image saw me return to one of my favourite types to experiment with. I filled a bowl full of water and, without any specialist equipment to control the water, I was forced to hang a money bag (the type you get from banks for paying in coins) above the bowl of water. I then pricked a small hole into the bag with a pin.
Having filled the bag with more water, I then had to try and get the focus right. Luckily this is where the Liveview mode on the Canon 50D comes in handy. At 10x magnification I was able to get the focus as I wanted.
All that then remained was for the background (in this case a holiday brochure back cover) and lighting. This was done with a flash remotely triggered on manual mode at 1/64th power pointed at the background and the onboard flash at -2fec.
In photoshop I changed to images to LAB mode to do a curves adjustment on teh A and B channels to give a vividness (is that a word?) to the red, then back into RGB mode for final unsharp mask pass.
